there may be sweet tea in Seattle {but there isn't Chick-Fil-A}

So. In my "about me" on the right, you can see that I am a displaced Southerner. The Pacific Northwest is a gorgeous, green, interesting, adventure-filled region, but for a girl raised in The South there are of course many, many things that I miss. One of those things is Chick-Fil-A.

I didn't mention on my post about our latest trip to Vancouver, BC that I was beyond thrilled to learn that there was a Chick-fil-A (CHICK-FIL-A!!!) in Bellingham, Washington, which we happened to be driving through on our way to Canada. I seriously could not believe my good fortune that there was Chick-fil-A in my state, albeit rather far away. I had no idea!

So we navigated our way through the streets of Bellingham, figuring out that the CFA was actually on the campus of the college there. It was a little tricky finding our way around, but we finally made it to a student center, where we realized the small CFA counter was. We parked and walked around till we figured out where to enter. But the door was locked. Hmmm. Around the building, down lots of stairs (it is on a hill) we went, up the stairs again, searching for a way to get in that building.

I saw people in there and I could have sworn I smelled fried chicken. Eventually, some people are coming out, and we scoot on in... only to find everything is shut down.

Now, this was not a Sunday... I believe it was a Saturday... but everything was closed for the MLK holiday. Isn't that a Monday? Did you really have to be closed all weekend CFA?

Exhausted and hungry, we piled back in the SUV and headed up to Canada to find some lunch. I've not really talked about Chick-Fil-A since. But then my mom posted a video on Facebook, and I had to share this song.

For all of you lucky enough to live near a Chick-Fil-A, count your blessings and enjoy some waffle fries and carrot-raisin salad for me. For those who don't, I hope you get to try it one day!

xoxo

  6. I have been following your blog for a couple of weeks and really look forward to reading. I am from Atlanta and a total CFA addict. So have you had their milk shakes? They have only been serving for maybe three years and they are an awesome addition to the menu. Right now they have Peach Shakes as their special flavor through summer and they are so yummy. Hopefully, you will be able to get to CFA soon.

  7. Too bad that CFA was closed.
Thanks for sharing the video clip...I've got to show it to my DH. We are have one in less than 5 mins away so we go there 2-3x/mo. Especially Kids night on Tuesdays is our time to go since they have balloon artists, magicians, a lady who does themed crafts depending on the week. Our little girls love that place... great food and they always ask for free balloons to take home!

  8. jeana - thanks! And PEACH shakes?! I had some Chik Fil A last summer when I was back home but didn't notice the shakes. We'll be back out that way in August so I will get another chance. :) Speaking of peach, I love the fried peach pies at The Varsity. Yum.

jcrewphd - how fun - I didn't know about Kids Nights. Will have to hit CFA on a Tues this summer :)

  9. Wait a minute - peach shakes? I knew the CFA had some awesome shakes, but didn't know they had a peach one. I'm reading all of this after hungrily gorging myself on Wendy's. And I don't even like Wendy's.

  10. I read a ton of Southern blogs and everyone always talks about Chik-Fil-A. Having grown up in Washington I had never heard of it until I started blogging, but now I read about it all the time. If I ever get somewhere withy one, I'll have to try it!

  12. As a fellow displaced Southerner in Seattle, I had a hankering for some Chick and heard there was one in Portland. When in PDX on a business trip, I drove around forever trying to find it and never did. Boo hoo.

  14. I know what it's like to lose a favorite restaurant. We always ate at the original one in Hapeville, Ga. and luckily they just built one in Indiana so don't give up hope.

  16. This has to be one of the biggest problems I have with Seattle! I can't believe the one in Bellingham was closed. How disappointing! But your Chik-Fil-A devotion is inspiring. :)

  17. This Bama girl lived in Hawaii for 3 yrs before moving to Seattle for 6 yrs. Neither of which had CFA. I heart CFA. Now that I live 10 minutes from one with (wait for it...)the PLAYGROUND!!! I go there at least once, but sometimes up to 3x/week. And they have sweet tea which you can't find anywhere else around here. I know the pain you suffer and I feel for you girl :)

  18. I graduated from Western! ....a year before they got CFA..Now I'm on the other side of the country and get to enjoy their milkshakes all the time. So I can't complain anymore. But let me say that Dicks Burgers is my all time favorite place to go so you have to say that's almost a fair trade :)
