Zara Red Blazer with Gathered Shoulders

**updated 2/6/13 with pictures at end of post to help show the shade of red of this blazer**

My red Zara blazer (Ref. 7659/682) arrived yesterday and it is just as I'd expected.  Actually, I like it even more than I thought I would.  I was a little concerned that the slightly puffy "gathered" shoulders -- while perfectly fine for a 30-year-old Duchess -- might be a bit much for a *ahem* slightly older mom of three who is not dressing to be photographed at public engagements.  No... Zara got it just right for the rest of us too.

The red looks to me to be a true, velvety red.  The fabric (polyester, viscose, elastane), while not high end (it's a $99.90 Zara blazer), does not at all appear cheap in my opinion.  The smooth, flat weave is just right in this color... nice medium weight. The golden buttons add just a smidge of regal shine and they've included two extras sewn into the lining.  It was sold out there for a sec but is back in stock in all sizes except XL as of this morning.  Mine is a Medium - my typical size in Zara tops.  I usually buy Smalls or 4s in JCrew, Banana, etc, for comparison.

I'm so happy with this one, I have the Blazer with Golden Buttons on the way.  I'll let you know how that one works out when it gets here.

You can see pics of the Duchess of Cambridge wearing this blazer at the London Olympics at What Kate Wore here.  I'll be putting together some Polyvores soon.

Happy Friday!

xoxo

I've added a couple of pictures below so you can better judge the shade of red of this blazer.  Here it is against a Louboutin sole, Converse sneakers, and Revlon nail polish in #680 Revlon Red:

  4. You have cute clothes. Have you ever done a post on how you organize each outfit/jewelry/shoes etc.? Do you take a picture of it all put together so you know what looks good together? (and can get ready without thinking!) Just curious?

  5. Hi Wendy - thanks! Quite a while ago I posted how I organize shoes in my closet and did a post on organizing jewelry on a bulletin board. I like to play around on Polyvore to see how different combos look together and get ideas from others and I can use it to go back through and remember things I wore that I liked. I usually have sort of a uniform which makes it easy - jeans, tee or tank, and cardigan or blazer with ballet flats or wedges, sandals in summer. Clothes in my closet are grouped by item type - woven shirts, knits, blazers, etc and then by color within those groups. Day to day I really don't think about it too much unless I have a special occasion/going out or when packing for a trip. Right now I'm working on weeding out things I don't really wear anymore - fewer choices make it easier :)

  6. Your Polyvore outfits with this blazer are really tempting me...but I already have a red J. Crew blazer! I like the look of the Zara velvet for fall, my blazer is linen so more summery. What I'm really looking for is everything purple! I've seen a lot of cute purple things for fall...anything you like? :)

    1. Thanks Charlotte! Love those J Crew blazers! This blazer isn't velvet - the color just seems velvety to me. It's a flat, just about year round weave I'd say. I haven't seen too much Fall yet... Nordstrom's catalog just arrived yesterday. I will keep my eye out - I've been checking in on Zara quite frequently lately, especially on their blazers and shirts so I will let you know :)

  8. Love this blazer too! I haven't shopped from Zara online since they first launched the site last year, and was wondering if Zara still charges your credit as a foreign transaction, and so foreign transaction fees applies. Thanks!

  9. Hi, the pictures look like it's an orange-y red. What shade of red is it exactly? Is it more towards scarlet (orange-y red) or crimson (raspberry red)? I'm contemplating getting this jacket from e-bay but they really increased the prices, so I need to be sure of the colour! Really hope you can help me out, thank you!! =)

  10. Hi, the pictures look like it's an orange-y red. May I ask if the shade of red is closer to scarlet (orange-y red) or crimson (raspberry red)? I am contemplating getting this jacket from eBay, but it's selling for a much higher price now, so I need to be sure of the colour before buying it! Really hope you can help me here! Thank you! =)

    1. Hi - I was looking around my closet for similar reds and snapped a couple pictures for you but forgot that I've been getting an error message on iPhoto and cannot open the application till I figure that out... sorry about that! I would say it's a pretty true red... not raspberry... more toward orange-y if I had to pick a side... but definitely bright red. I have a bottle of Revlon Red nail polish #680 and it is very much like that. Also close to the red Louboutin sole or a red pair of Converse. When I get my iPhoto problem fixed I'll add a couple pics to the bottom of this post for color reference. Hope this helps!

    2. Hello, thanks for going through all that trouble!!! You're such a darling for making all that effort to snap those pictures for me. =) I bought the jacket immediately after reading your reply! I googled Revlon #680 and it's almost identical to OPI "Colour So Hot It Berns", which happens to be my favourite shade of bright red! I can't wait for the blazer to arrive now. It's gonna match all my red lipticks and oh gosh, I shall get a pair of Louboutins soon too! Thanks so much once again!! You couldn't have been more helpful! =)

P.S. I see that you like Asia. Hello from Singapore! ;)
