OOTD 1.7.10: Shore Pink + Gold

I'm not showing the whole outfit because, honestly, I'm just wearing jeans and Uggs again (brown Uggs with this though - day before was gray).

But I just love the color combo of J Crew's shore pink with the shimmery gold of the Haley Foil Cardigan, so I snapped a couple pics.

(And of course I had to add a scarf with that great new twisty hacking knot before I left the house.)

How Clean Are Your New Clothes?

Method's Squeaky Green Laundry Soap,
drugstore.com's picture

So... I'm usually pretty conscious of this when trying on/buying clothes anyway... but this video (click on link below) shows some actual testing to determine: how clean might those clothes be that are hanging on the racks?

Now, we all know germs are everywhere - so of course they are in clothing stores - but here is another good reason to wash before wearing:

OOTD 1.6.10 {it's really just about the scarf}

Today I wasn't going to post an OOTD - I threw on jeans, tee, cardi, Uggs - and decided I would maybe just write a post on the carrots I made out of my Julia Child cookbook the other night.

But then I happened upon this blog (vlog) post and decided to try it. Love. So, thank you very much to Chic Critque for showing us a new twist (literally) on the Hacking Knot! I love scarves and I love this new-to-me tie.

I'm wearing a cashmere wrap (pic further below) tied this way today but I also gave it a whirl with an Hermes scarf. They are quite different looks and I really like them both.

Hermes Grand Manege

To do the Hermes, or another scarf of the same dimensions, you first need to fold it to make it long & narrow:

And here with the thicker cashmere wrap, you can see the braided effect better:

Anthropologie: Super Sale Mystery Cardi

**Update: mystery solved, much thanks to Roxy: it is Tabitha's Marled Bolero and I was able to find a cached Anthro pic online:**

Marled Bolero - originally $128.00

Here is another Anthropologie piece I found shopping with Mom that she went back and bought for me for Christmas. I can't find it online but I remember it had a huge markdown - it was under $30 with the original retail waaay above that. The brand is Tabitha and it is an acrylic/wool/poly blend.

There were several in-store hanging on a fixture and when I see such a big markdown with so many of an item left, I generally think something must be off about it - fit, etc. I tried it on anyway because I loved the marl knit and colors, and was pleasantly surprised that I really liked it on.

It is extremely warm -- very thick and cozy -- but the wide cropped sleeves, short length, and single hook closure make it so that it is not overwheming or suffocating. Just the perfect thing to throw on when the house feels a little cool or it is chilly out. To me it has that home-made, one-a-kind feel that I love to stumble upon at Anthropologie.

So far I have only tried it over ivory/white, but I am on the look-out for turtlenecks and tees in the right brown or pinks/burgundies to wear under it also.

If anyone has seen this online or on Polyvore and has a name for it, please let me know!

Anthropologie: Radiant Necklace {+ a bracelet}

**update: the bracelet is the Bauble-Bath Bracelet, item #944556, shown online here .**

The Radiant Necklace (thank you to Roxy from Effortless Anthropologie for saving this on Polyvore because I couldn't find it online) was another Anthropologie gift my mom and I found during our Christmas shopping. The light gray-blue beads are so pretty and actually quite versatile and the clusters of clear beads with gold are such a nice touch. I have it shown below against several different pieces from my closet. I particularly like it with ivory, tan & brown, and also with J Crew's Pewter (not shown). I think their Amber would be nice with it too. In Spring I'll do bright white and maybe yellow.

Now, for the bracelet! I love this one - it's that stretch accordian-bracelet style with loads of faux pearls and little gold balls with crystals. Also from Anthropologie (and Mom - thanks, Mom!)

(It's actually pretty difficult to photograph your own wrist but I wanted to show the scale, so here it is.)

Best wishes everyone for a great start to 2010!
