Zara "silk lace top" #3658/218
made in Turkey
requires a cami
I placed my first Zara US order on Tuesday evening and my top arrived today, nicely wrapped in tissue, in a not-quite-shipping-box-weight box but the box was wrapped in dark blue plastic and arrived in great condition. Quickly too for free shipping, I think. They included a sweet little bracelet with a Zara charm in a fabric drawstring bag. (It says "Thank you for following us on Facebook", which I don't, so I imagine they are just sending them out with some of their first orders.)
It appears to have shipped out of Massachusetts, and that is the address on the return label. Because of this, and because this is the new US site and prices are listed in US dollars, I was surprised to see "Zara Dublin" on my online card statement, with a foreign transaction fee tacked on.
Anyone else in the US place a Zara order? Received it? What do you think?
little glitch with the sewing at the neckline...
going to try to press to make less noticeable

I'm impressed with the fast shipping, but did your credit card company charge you a fee on top of your order?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty top! Maybe your credit card company will take the fee off for the foreign charge?
ReplyDeletePamela - I was too! Yes - $39.90 on my card from Zara and a separate 40 cents charge for foreign transaction from my cc, which is their standard 1% on transactions in/with other countries.
ReplyDeleteStyle Journey - thanks! I don't know... I wonder if everyone ordering from the US site is having their order processed in a foreign currency...
I received my order on Saturday via Fedex which really surprised me - I was impressed with the fast ship and the packaging. I haven't checked my statement though, so I need to look into that foreign transaction fee deal - what a bummer!
ReplyDeletelove the top!!! would love to see an ootd with it...miss your ootd's!!! how would you style this top?
ReplyDeleteI've been absent from blogging for a while, but I loved stopping by and seeing your purchases and checking out your polyvore. Love the animal prints I'm seeing!! I picked up some leapard kitten heels today and can't wait to wear them. Your ON scarf is a similar pattern. You know what they say about great minds....
ReplyDeleteOh, and I moved to a new blog today: http://www.denimanddandelions.blogspot.com/
Love that top, and I am so glad Zara is selling stuff online now!

I nearly ordered that lovely top; what I did order came a speedy 48 hours later. I'm returning a few items, so I can't comment on whether that process is as smooth, but I've been very impressed so far.
ReplyDeleteThat's terrible about that mystery foreign transaction fee, however - hopefully Zara's customer service will reverse that?
My order also arrived a speedy 48 hours after I placed my order. Love that. Did not love the foreign transaction fee when it says it shipped from MA. I did have to return one item (out of 3) at the store and that process was very quick and they also refunded the foreign transaction fee for that one item as part of the return. Because of the fee, I don't know if I will continue to order online even though online has more stock than the individual stores.
ReplyDeleteHi :) How did you find the sizing of this top?
ReplyDeleteStacy - I usually buy Mediums in Zara tops, while wearing Smalls at places like J Crew and Loft. The Medium in this one was perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for stopping by!
LRA - thanks! I think you saw my first Polyvore with it? :)
I placed an order and found out today ive been charged an $18.21 foreign transaction fee. This is absurd. How can you get people to order from a US website and have them get charged for processing the order in another country!

ReplyDeleteJust ordered a dress yesterday and immediately received an alert from AMEX that my card was used for a foreign transaction (Zara Dublin)... guess I will also see the added transaction fee on my statement.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute piece! Love the lace. I have a Zara nearby so I probably won't order from online. Odd that there's an additional credit card fee. I guess free shipping makes up for it
ReplyDeleteI just recieved my first order from Zara. I was so excited to be able to get their stuff since the closest store is quite far. I've been very happy with my order. It can really quickly and who doesn't love free shipping. Now I'm nervous about the fee though.
ReplyDeleteDid you end up being charged the fee?
DeleteMy buying experience from Zara online was great too. Although I was also hit with a foreign transaction fee which is ridiculous since they never warn you on checkout, and I was also charged state taxes.
ReplyDeleteMy bank wouldn't reverse the fee, possibly Zara customer service would?
One way to get your fees back would be to return your items in store and buy them back locally, but that's a pain!
So glad you guys were talking about foreign transaction fees. I recently made a purchase on Zara.com/USA and got hit with a 3% by Citi. The bank told me it's because the website is based in Ireland (but I'm sure Zara's US subsidiary has a bank account here). I think it's banks' way of charging us extra fee and not Zara's fault. Good think I don't have to pay a 6% sales tax since there is no Zara store here in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with this blouse but it has since sold out. If you ever tire of it, I would love to buy it off you, please contact me at jward1224@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI brought 2 dresses and got a transaction fee of more than 8$. What boggles my mind is how can ZARA get away with this? Shouldn't they be informing or at least informing the customer about additional charges?
ReplyDeleteNo where on their website have they mentioned this. And now I hate them for lying to me.
I got more then $8 as foreign transaction fee on 2 dresses that I brought online from ZARA. No where on their website or while making the purchase do they mention of any additional processing fees. Shouldn't they be informing their customers? If ZARA is reading this, I am disappointed that you have lied to me and will away with it. Not telling the whole truth in this case is lying.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the percent of purchase they are charging for foreign transaction fee? I just bought two pairs of flats as two separate purchases. What should I expect?
ReplyDeleteHi, the foreign transaction fee will depend on your credit card. Mine charges 1% and it shows up as a separate charge on my statement - it is not a fee that Zara is assessing. Some cards don't charge foreign transaction fees. I have been told that you can use Paypal without having any foreign transaction fees but I have not purchased that way.
