Old Navy Outerwear {on sale}

Old Navy has their outerwear on sale and this great plaid jacket is now 50% off. I wore it this past week on a very windy, low 50's day and it kept me nice and warm. The fabric is densely woven and really kept the chill away. This soft gray/cream is my favorite but they have a couple other great plaids and some solids online right now too. Promo'd at just $29.00 it is an amazing deal! If you shop online, don't forget to go through ebates - ON has 8% cash back right now.

I also bought this jacket in this happy yellow. The feel of the fabric is very similar and I love the stand-up, slightly ruffled collar.

Spaghetti with Shrimp, Feta and Dill

This isn't the most Fall-ish supper, but I took a little break from soups and cold weather comfort foods last night and made the spaghetti with shrimp, Feta and dill from Real Simple's April 2010 issue.

You need:

spaghetti (cooked to package directions)
shrimp
olive oil
a lemon
a small bunch of fresh dill
3/4 c crumbled Feta

Saute the shrimp in olive oil and add about 1 tsp of grated lemon zest and 2 Tbsp of lemon juice. My shrimp was already cooked so I was just heating it up... but if it is uncooked give it about 3-4 minutes over medium-high heat or until opaque before you add in the lemon zest/juice.

When the pasta is cooked and drained, toss it with the shrimp, a little more olive oil, the Feta, and dill. I'll confess I added just a smidge of butter. This would be really good with a very buttery lemon sauce but definitely not as healthy.

All done - super easy!

Banana Republic Reade Motorcycle Boot {+ a Lilly Sale!}

During a recent 30% off sale (it seems there are a lot of those lately, doesn't it?) I ordered the black Reade moto boot from BR. It is a pretty basic, just-above-ankle boot, with a gunmetal buckle at the side. The leather strap is stitched down - the buckle is not adjustable. There is memory foam padding, but still on my first wearing the ball of my left foot hurt... I think the boot was still a little tight. Second wearing last night, they felt fine. I'm really just so used to flats that a 3 1/4" heel height is an adjustment... but these will be getting lots of wear this Fall and Winter - they are so versatile. I found them TTS; wearing my usual 8 1/2.

How I wore them first:

Anthropologie Plaza Cardigan, ON tank in white, Mossimo ponte leggings, BR Reade boot

This is one of my favorite Anthro cardis. I've put it through the washing machine a couple of times (flat to dry) and the ruffles are still looking good!

And... Splash of Pink (I've ordered lots of my Lilly from them) is currently offering 30% off Fall Lilly Pulitzer items with the code NOTRICK. The promotion ends tomorrow, October 24th.

Happy Saturday!

Sweet Pea Ruffle Cardigan {+ Daily Deals at Kendra Scott}

Well... I waited so long to post about this Nordstrom Anniversary Sale cardigan that it is already on sale again. I don't see the charcoal gray that I own online but they do have it in Chianti and Thyme. This is such an easy, versatile piece to throw on over lots of different tops and tees.... I've worn it quite a bit and always feel very comfortable in it. The ruffle edges are unfinished and the knit is thin and stretchy. No closures.

Last week I wore it very simply, with jeans and a white tank:

Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati Ruffle Cardigan - regularly $68, now $39.90 (40% off) at Nordstrom, Joe's Jeans, Old Navy tank, Cole Haan booties in Ironstone Suede

Also, I got an email today about some daily deals at Kendra Scott. The Danielle earrings (which I have in the turquoise) are on sale for $48 in the Hot Pink Jade and Pink Rose Quartz. $5 from the sale of each of those will be donated to breast cancer awareness. The Tavi Stud Earrings are also on sale for $40 (from $50) in eight colors. I like the Sky Blue and Smoky Gray but it's hard to choose!

Hope everyone's having a great week!

Mossimo Waterfall Cardigan

Here's another great Target find: the Mossimo Waterfall Cardigan. I saw these in-store but didn't really give them a second thought. But then I saw this post by Megan over at PIPM and I took another look. When I tried them on, I instantly knew this cardi would be a great addition to my wardrobe. I purchased the black/grey and wore it yesterday -- and it just has that feel of something I've owned for years and am completely comfortable in. I may just have to go back for the other color combo...

Here's yesterday:

the stripes look off here but they do line up (see very last pic)... I just have it on a little crooked

And here is the shape of the cardi flat... cool, huh?!

A Little Break {for an important subject}

This space is my little corner of the blogosphere where I have lots of fun sharing fashion finds, nail polish colors, travel fun, and the occasional recipe. Of course, all of this is flavored with personal opinion and experience (I'm not a professional at any of this) but I usually try to limit my content to these fun diversions and not get into any deep discussions. On the rare occasion, though, something comes along that seems so urgent and important that I just cannot not share.

Most of us have seen the headlines about the effect that bullying is having on young people today. In some cases it is absolutely tragic. I recently ran across a post on the blog Single Dad Laughing: Memoirs of a Bullied Kid. It is the most powerful discussion of the topic I have seen.

Now, it's a long post and takes some time to read. In the first part, the author recounts his own experiences, and in later paragraphs, he offers some real wisdom, insight and answers as to what we, as adults - parents or not - can do to help both the bullied and the bullies. His words had an impact on me and I think he offers a powerful voice for action and change. As of today he has over two thousand reader comments.

I will resume my regularly scheduled programming soon :) and hope you are all starting out a wonderful week.

The Mossimo Ponte Leggings {+ a new OPI polish & small mention of Cher}

I was alerted to the fabulousness of these ponte leggings by Shasta, who writes for CupcakeMAG. She said they were very much like J Crew's pixie pants at a fraction of the price. Now, I never did buy any of the pixies, but I can attest that these Mossimo Skinny Ponte Leggings are wonderful... the fabric feels and looks great; they are thick, comfortable, and definitely give me a feeling of support or being rather "firmed up". There is a seam front and back down the legs, and wide elastic waistband. No zippers or closures. I put mine through the washer and (accidentally, even though the tag says tumble dry is okay) the dryer inside-out... and they came out beautifully. Then I went out and bought a second pair.

Here are a couple ways I've worn them so far:

Old Navy Cowlneck Tunic Sweater in Graphite, Mossimo Leggings, J Crew Brewster boots (last year)

a little chilly -- so I added a J Crew outlet denim jacket from a few years ago before I headed out

the leggings again, with an Old Navy Perfect V-Neck Tee, Target Mossimo Boyfriend Cardigan in Heather Oatmeal, Gray Uggs and Burberry scarf

This boyfriend cardi from Target is priced at just $20 and comes in lots of colors... even a couple with stripes. It is just the length I like with leggings. It is pretty thin -- you can see the outline of my tee sleeve easily in the pics.

Also, please pardon the three shades of OPI polish on my thumb that I was testing out at the salon... which brings me to this:

Yes. That is Cher on the left (Cher! My Cher story is here.) and when I walked into the nail salon and saw this display, I knew I must get one of these colors for my pedicure. I chose "Let Me Entertain You", a sparkly, shimmery, bright and happy fuschia:

J Crew Red Card Buys

Well, the card isn't actually red... was it last year? Maybe that's why I keep thinking of it that way... At any rate, I was lucky enough to receive this limited time 25% off in-store card again this year, so I had to take advantage of it. These three pieces are from the sale section. (I am thinking of a possible second J Crew visit before it expires on the 11th if I can fit it in.)

The ruffles go all the way around...love the color...very easy dressing.

I wore it over a heather gray Old Navy tank, with jeans and black Revas.

Cascading Always Cardigan (don't see the color online, but it is an olive green), and Tissue Ruffle-Rows Shell (I think this is the Vintage Wisteria color... and I found it to run big: this is an XS, the popover and cardi are size S.)
This cardigan was one of my new arrival picks when it first came out so I was happy to get it at such a great price. It has a really easy, comfy feel to it. I had not thought of wearing these two pieces together when I purchased, but thought the two colors might work when I looked at them next to each other at home. I like the combo.

I wore with jeans and nude flats. I'd love some gold jewelry with this but I didn't have time to think about jewelry this morning so stuck with my silver Tiffany necklace, silver Target earrings, and DY bracelet that I've been wearing almost daily lately.

The ruched rows are on the front only.

Hope everyone's having a great week ~

Banana Republic {silk lace front shell} + Old Navy Sale Shopping

I am so far behind in posts... life with three kiddos has been extremely busy lately and most days it feels like I am just running from one thing to another with very little time to put a coherent thought or two together.

So, finally, here is the last item from my Give and Get order... I posted on the Gap part of my order awhile ago, and then had an OOTD with the BR leopard cardi & Ludlow Bay blue blouse. Just recently I got around to wearing the Lace Front Shell (which I really like). This color appears to be sold out online now, but they do still have it available in black -- and it is on sale.

(btw: SAVEBIG gets you 30% off at Banana, Gap, and ON today and tomorrow... I just ordered this in the Cream Plaid... saw it in-store and thought it was gorgeous -- but just couldn't pay $59.50 for an Old Navy jacket... also ordered this in Mellow Yellow and stocked up on some tees... don't forget to go through ebates if you order online for cash back)

BR Lace Front Shell, Loft cardi in a dark gray, faux black pearl earrings... most likely from Ann Taylor 10 years ago or so, Tiffany & Co. necklace... also about 10 years ago, DY cable bracelet, Gucci oversized coin logo sunglasses, jeans and Revas

Happy Monday!
